Cape Town Knight Riders Team Squad Players List
The Cape Town squad for the Global League can be found at the end of the article. Team Cape Town will bank on JP Duminy to deliver them a solid performance in the first season of the T20 Global League.
The cricket scene in South Africa is set to undergo a massive transformation, as the Cricket South Africa recently unveiled its plan to host the T20 Global League in the country. The format is quite similar to other major T20 events across the world such as the Indian Premier League, Big Bash and so on. Eight franchises will be representing eight cities of the country, owned by some of the biggest names in the sports industry.
One of these eight cities is Cape Town, which will be participating in the T20 Global League. While the name of the franchise and the roster hasn’t been decided yet, the owner of the team along with its marquee player, are two things which we know with absolute certainty. Newlands is the home ground of this side.
Shah Rukh Khan, the owner of the Kolkata Knight Riders (who have won the Indian Premier League twice), will now hope for a similar success from his new investment in Cape Town franchise. The performance of his side in the IPL has been quite impressive, and that has been possible owing to a well balanced squad. Have they brought in an equally balanced side for the Global T20 League?
Cape Town Knight Riders have got themselves the very talented JP Duminy, who is unarguably, one of the most prolific cricketers in the T20 format. With plenty of experience from the Indian Premier League and the national team, he is surely going to be a crucial player for the team.
The other huge signing is Chris Gayle, who is arguably the best ever T20 cricketer in the world. His form has been patchy in more recent times but a good stint at the CPL could be of help.
Dale Steyn will also want to get back to playing cricket at full throttle having been out because of a shoulder fracture and he features for the Knight Riders, while English leggie Adil Rashid is another welcome addition. Tom Curran and James Vince are the other two England cricketers in the line-up, which also has Rory Kleinveldt, the South African quick bowler.
Former South African great, all-rounder and Kolkata Knight Riders assistant coach Jacques Kallis will be the Cape Town coach this season.
The list of international marquee T20 global league players has also been released by the CSA, but it isn’t decided yet as to which franchise they will represent. This leaves Cape Town with a good deal of options to choose from – Dwayne Bravo, Chris Gayle, Kevin Pietersen, Brendon McCullum and others.
With this being a new endeavor all together, one thing is certain – this is going to be highly entertaining and thrilling. Cape Town Knight Riders squad 2017 team players list is placed below.
